The title of this book is borrowed from
Psalm 16, where the Psalmist reflects on the privilege of
belonging to a community blessed by God over a number of
generations, and where he thanks God for the “goodly heritage”
he has been given — the blessings of a communal spiritual life
which he has inherited in the mercy and providence of God.
The aim of this book is to highlight and
examine some of the distinctive features — the “goodly heritage”
— of the Christadelphian community, in doctrine and practice, in
communal, spiritual and everyday life, and to show that the
Christadelphians’ claim to be a Bible–based community is a valid
one.
The author of this book — a
fourth–generation Christadelphian — attended Sunday School and
Youth Circle throughout his boyhood, and was baptised as a
teenager in the 1960s. A contributor to The Testimony magazine
for almost forty years (twenty-one of them as a Section Editor),
and with wide–ranging experience of Christadelphian ecclesias in
various parts of the UK, he writes both knowledgeably and
affectionately about key aspects of the community to which he
has felt privileged to belong.
The contents of this book consist of more
than twenty chapters on the faith, life and history of the
Christadelphians. Previously appearing as studies and reviews in
various Christadelphian publications (principally The Testimony
magazine), these chapters are the fruit of many years of close
personal involvement with the Christadelphian community. |
